RAPHAEL was founded jointly in Dehradun (Uttarakhand) in 1959 by Group Captain Lord Geoffrey Leonard Cheshire of Woodhall, VC, OM, DSO***, DFC and his wife, Baroness Sue Ryder of Warsaw, CMG, OBE.

What are the visiting hours?

We provide services around the clock and the office is open from 9am-4.30pm on weekdays and till 1pm on Saturdays. Visiting hours are 10am – 3 pm

What kind of donations do you accept?

You can donate online through our website. There are several options for you to choose from. We also accept donations in cash and kind, except for used personal items.

How do I volunteer at Raphael?

Please send us an email at raphaelcentre@gmail.com with information about yourself and how much time you want to spend here. We will reply to you at the earliest. You can also apply using the online application form.

What is the admission procedure for children with disability?

Admission will be based on the assessment findings of the Multi-Disciplinary Team.

How do I get an appointment for assessment?

Appointments for assessment can be made through email or by phone. Appointments are usually given for Mondays and assessments can take 2-4 days.

What is the age criteria for admission to the hostel?

The child should be between the age of 9 to 18 years.

What is the criteria for admission to the day school?

Children who are 6 years and above are given admission to the day school. A child below 6 years may be provided early intervention services 2-3 times a week, depending on the need. Those living outside Dehradun and who cannot be provided services on campus may be given a home-based programme.

What are the school fees?

We do not charge any school fees.

Is medical care available on campus?

Yes, If the child is on regular medication, eg.,for epilepsy, and is living in the hostel, the nursing staff will ensure that the medicines are given as prescribed.

What is the procedure for TB treatment?
  • Patients from outside Dehradun are given medicine for 5 to 6 days and are referred to their respective District TB Officers (DTO) for further treatment.
  • Those admitted in Hospital from outside Dehradun are also referred to their DTOs on discharge, with medicines for 5 to 6 days, for continuation of their treatment.
What is the admission procedure for the training courses in special education?

Information regarding the courses is published in the national dailies by the Rehabilitation Council of India., and will also be on our website.

What training courses are being offered?

At this time we only offer the full time 2 year Diploma in Special Education (Mental Retardation).

Is accommodation available for those wanting to enroll in the training programme?

No, we do not have accommodation. Trainees need to make their own arrangements.

What are the annual fees for the course?

It is Rs.25,000/- per year

What is your admission policy for Lifelong Care?

The admissions of PwD in Lifelong Care is at the discretion of Raphael.

Accommodation

The Guest House has living accommodation and a community lounge cum dining room with a television. Each room has two beds and an attached bathroom with western style toilets and hot and cold water. The food is vegetarian and meals are provided for at reasonable rates. Payments are required to be made on a weekly basis.

Your everyday needs are available in shops in the vicinity of RAPHAEL.

Passport & Visa

If you need a visa to travel, please get it prior to arrival in India.

Please ensure that you apply for a tourist visa.

Check with your home country authorities on the requirements of travel and medical insurance.

Do not carry it around with you unless you are going to be staying at a hotel over a weekend. You will need the passport to check in. At all other times, keep it locked in your room or you can ask the office to keep it for you in safe custody.

If you are unwell during your time at Raphael, you will be looked after.

What will you be doing

This will depend, to some extent, on the length of time you plan to spend at RAPHAEL, your qualifications and experience, and also your interests. Please remember that you do not need to have any special qualifications to work here.

The primary focus of our work is in the special education of children and young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. You could work as a teacher aide in the classrooms, assist with therapies, develop English conversation skills with the staff, help with office documentation and digitizing. You could help with social media, taking photographs and supplying daily news bytes.

You will, as a matter of procedure be asked to sign our Policy for Protection of Children and Vulnerable adults.
